Uncategorized May 29th, 2008So, guess I created a sh** storm. I would like to say thanks to everyone who has commented on my last post. I am a big believer that everyone’s opinion counts so, good or bad, thanks for commenting. I wanted to do a follow up post to clarify a few issues.
First, I don’t spell well so if spell check screws me then I am screwed. I was a great student but the whole spelling thing defies me so I am sorry if I butcher a few words.
Second, I know a lot of you out there are not big fans of mine. That is cool, and I know that no matter what I say or do that will never change. Plus, I have never been real tied to the whole “I need to me liked” thing. I am what I am, and everyone else is what they are, so as long as I am consistent then that is all I can ask of myself. If you want to get personal and throw insults and accusations then go for it, but I won’t waste my time fighting back in these blogs.
Finally, and most important, I want to clarify my position on my last post about Joe Papp. The post was more about a guy begging for forgiveness and understanding after he got caught doing wrong than it was about a guy who used performance enhancing drugs. What I have trouble stomaching is the fact that the guy is an adult, made an adult decision to use drugs, got caught and only then gave a crap about what the effects were and what everyone thought about him. And lets face it, he was not pressured, he was not young and dumb, but he did make a well thought out decision to try and get an advantage. He boasted about it. He rode on the high of being high, and only after he was backed into a corner did he change his approach and throw himself on the mercy of everyone else. Plus, according to his own statements, he refused to do the fake urine thing and then got caught which means he took all these steps to enhance himself over the years and then got to a point when he knew he might get popped and then backed away? What? If you are going “all in” then go “all in” for gosh sake. What’s bush is that I might….might understand if he had come clean, admitted he was wrong, and then vanished. The key fact still remains that the general public reads about him and continues to equate cycling and drugs. Papp’s claims about his importance are equivalent to a community college graduate, I fall into this category, claiming they have a Masters from Harvard. How disrespectful is it to the Harvard grad who grinded their way through that mine field. Plus, if you read the amount of stuff that Papp was taking, I think he needs to go ask for a refund becasue he should have been winning the Tour on that amount of stuff.
One other point I would like to make, I have a hard time accussing someone of taking drugs if I have not seen it with my own eyes. That is like accusing someone of a serious crime by heresay and rumor; see Duke Lacrosse team. I just can’t bring myself to really believe a guy is doing something if I have not seen the drugs going in. So I can’t really buy into accusations about this guy or that guy doing drugs if they have not been caught by a governing body doing so. I came to grips with the fact that there are a lot better bike riders than myself a long time ago. I know a lot of people will not agree with me on this, but I am strong in my resolve on this issue. But in this case, we are clean becasue Joe admitted he did it all. Funny thing is I could see this guy trying to backtrack in a few months.
I have some sponsors for my blog coming on board, so this entry is brought to you by the guy who designs and makes Don Cherry’s suits.

Well said Mike! You know how I feel about the entire doping thing..:-) Hope you’re doing well.

Sorry I should have put my comment on your previous post..I do agree with you 100%.

Mike Jones. I am still waiting to hear back from you as to what size bike you want. If your going to compete in the Clydesdale comp, we need to get this order ok.
Powers called me and ask me not to talk about him. He’s so serious. He said Beast is racing him to much, thinks he wont be ready in time for cross.
Speaking of cross I took some good photos of myself I’ll send them to you tell me what you think I look like with long hair.
May 29th, 2008 at 3:50 pm
Sayers, I was going to post some trash about you but instead you have gone up a major notch in my books because you referenced DON CHERRY! Nice work.
May 29th, 2008 at 4:06 pm
Sayers, remember last year when I walk in on you and Moninger naked. Just curious. Let me know what room your in at philly and I’ll do it again. Jones told me there was a hot couple looking for some action. I swear I didn’t know it was you two.
May 29th, 2008 at 9:29 pm
Oh please dear Mike Jones, would you answer The Bird already? You two got me through the winter and since you’ve gone quiet at Dan’s site, reading blogs has not been the same.
Mike, I’ve enjoyed reading your blog for quite some time. I hope you continue being you as it’s been enjoyable!

sayers. i’m not the blogging type but i can’t help but to follow this. i’ve always respected you as a pro and i know you are a good guy. i understand better after reading this second post, the message you were trying to convey in your original post.
i know this is the stupid interweb and and i am posting anonymous so this probably doesn’t mean so much but… Respect. and. have fun in the break at Philly.

Perhaps the general public should recognize the undeniable link between professional sports in general and performance enhancing drugs and other doping methods.
It sounds like you might have experience with “going all in” and keeping quiet about it. I am not accusing you of anything. That’s just how your post comes across to me. It is probably idealistic to think that professional cycling can ever be completely cleaned of doping. I’d venture to guess that you’d prefer to compete on a level, clean playing field for health reasons if for nothing else - if it was possible. I am sympathetic to your anger directed towards someone who you do not consider to be representative of professional cyclists such as yourself. But do you think he is lying? Do you believe that there is more honor in the deceit of keeping silent?

Wow were back to this, when can we go back to joking and having a good time. I’ll bring the beer who’s bringing the chips. I

bird I’d come, but i quit drinking and eating junk food. Thats right, i’d like to come clean right here, right now, in my 8 years of licensed USCF cycling, I drank and ate chips in and out of competition, it made me happy and faster. I know it was bad for my body but I was so much better of a bike rider and I just couldnt stop it, NO other riders influenced my decision to use these substances. I actually had quite a bit of experience prior to cycling with these. I am not going to say who, but there were other pro cyclists using beer and chips on a regular basis, some nights beer use would run rampant with riders and the team doctors would even have to come in to check on the riders. I say this not to get attention although an invitation to appear on Oprah would be welcomed, but I just want to get the word out there about the use of these things in cycling.

Mike, I saw you drinking beer and eating chips with one of your directors. There was even tequila and Wild Turkey involved. The 101 proof stuff. Were you involved in systematic drinking?

Mike great stuff you made me want to enter a new post on my blog. However I forgot my password so I will do a post on Sayers blog.
New Post
The Bird reveals secret feelings.
Mike Jones has confessed to drinking and eating to much. Which has made me want to come out of the closet and reveil my feelings. See After spending every race with Jones in a Hotel Room watching him drink and eat. I realized that we had nothing in common. But He would open himself up and we talk for hours and hours the night before a race. Talking about life, Girls, Guys, and sometimes even about cats. And then it happen Mike came back after a race drinking and not thinking so clearly. I was lonely for some attention. And mike accidently passed out in my bed. I couldn’t resist, I had to lay lips upon his lips. I was so confussed at the time. And right when we was locking in. He came to and even he had the same feelings for me. At first it was weird, all so new to mike not so much to me. Anyways. We had a great night. And shortly after that magical night Mike retired and I am now getting married to Marty. If only mike had not retired who knows what would have happen. Mike I hope we can stay BBF. P.S. Beast says hi. He wants you to buy him drinks after Philly in the bar that smells like Pee.

I was a victim of the systemic use of alcoholic substances before, during, and after training and/or racing that Mike Jones speaks of. Yes, it’s true- no one made Mike do those things, and although I do take some personal responsibility for my decisions regarding intake of such substances, there were instances (too many to count) where Mike Jones influenced my decision to abuse said substances such as 40-oz bottles of beer and Little Debbie Oatmeal Creme pies. In fact, it was Mike Jones that supplied me with a full box of Lil Debbies, leaving me with tens of them. It was like the cakes were laughing at me. I felt it was more expected that I eat them than it was suggested. I held out as long as possible. I’m human. And regarding the copious amounts of alcohol ingested all over the nation from the West coast to the East Coast and everywhere in between, I also blame Mike and others whom had highly persuasive means of getting me to partake. Had I not taken these measures, I’m certain I wouldn’t have been the athlete I was(n’t). Thank goodness that Mike is no longer contributing to this gross misuse of sometimes banned substances…

Hey Mike you still have that box of Magnum’s. We didn’t use them all did we.

Apologies, after reading this:

I should have stopped myself before spouting off so rudely. Sorry.

I think we are all forgetting one thing, yes he cheated, but to me it seems he has the balls to admit it at least. You know what, Kudos to him for not making up some lame vanishing twin story or some crap like that. It takes some balls to admit to doing something that is so shunned in the cycling community. It seams to me, he is using his mistakes to teach others which is at least good.
To be honest, I knew Joe and raced on his team when I was coming up through the amatuers, I was positive he was doping (hey I made a joke sorta) so I knew he was a shit bag, I heard he sat out laps at Fitchburg, and I am 90% sure he screwed me, Friedman and others at Park Ridge a few years ago some how convincing the race organization his rider didn’t get lapped.
Yes he was a cheater, probably had no natural talent to speak of, and isn’t the nicest guy on the planet. I am not trying to defend his action at all, but it is all to easy to talk trash about him. But at least he has the courage to admit he doped.
I guess on a good note, more dopers are being caught which is great., and hopefully’s Papp’s lesson will teach others to not start doping, or stick to golf or something haha.
May 31st, 2008 at 6:58 pm
Dietrich -that was kind of BS when friedman thought he was on the podium and all of a sudden joe ushered some kid up to the podium and took money, I was pretty sure he was lapped. … I miss the big square and the brownies? you?
BIRD- I will probably only see 1% of the people that read this again in person in my lifetime, you have to see many of them on a regular basis and you still write that stuff……..good stuff thats why i miss you. Hey bird remember that time we roomed together and i was in bed but then decided i need a glass of orange juice? Ill call you in the next two days about the parts and bike. but if you dont here from me just get ahold of me here on mikes blog, i am sure he doesnt mind.
May 31st, 2008 at 8:12 pm
Jones, I actually figured out Joe’s scheme one morning like a week later, the guy they put on the podium was not the same guy in our group. He took some other guy I think that dropped out and said he was the one in the group when it was the other guy, who was actually lapped. It was a little confusing at the time, and I still don’t know how he fooled us all, nice win by the way!
Dude, I miss big square/brownies (and tamales in the winter) so much it hurts! I also miss delivering Jordan shopping carts filled with traffic cones, and signs and such. Who wants to go back to Tucson this winter as fat ex cyclists and tear the shit out of that town? haha! What are you up to now?
May 31st, 2008 at 8:16 pm
Crap Jones, I was just thinking about the time when we were drunk, you were in the middle of E. University, shirt off in the rain yelling out “DOESN”T ANYONE CARE I STOLE THIS TREY???” haha crap that brings laughs to my belly.

Wow Sean that’s cold. I’ll have you know that I posted my blog on MIke’s blog, so it wasnt all about doping. Some doping but I wrote about gay love. Which is funny, because doping and gay weddings are both banned. Except for a few states. My point is which one is more harmful. Drugs? or Man on Man action. If I could remember my password I would post on my own blog, but I can’t see. Mike your blog isnt stupid. I don’t care about Dopers this and Dopers that. There are far too many more important things in life. Like the War in Iraq, Gay Love, Oil crisis, Global Warming. Etc Etc. Right. Let’s all do our part in society and contribute to it. Lets not be a drain to it. Get out and vote the Nov for a new President. And if you have time listen to Allan Watts The art of Zen. Some of you are very angry people and you know what life is too short to be so angry. Take a walk this evening, and think about the positive things in life. Namaste.
June 2nd, 2008 at 7:58 pm
Wow Bird, I didn’t know you had all that in you. Well maybe the gay love thing.
Certainly Mama Bird has your password right? I’m happy to have you and Jones back so if it needs to be here, then cool.
